Mullen Receives UMass Outstanding Junior Alumni Award, Elected Board President of IHCD

Brian Mullen, PhD, innovation strategy manager for the Brigham Digital Innovation Hub (iHub), was named a 2018 Outstanding Junior Alumni award winner by the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst College of Engineering and president of the board for the Institute of Human Centered Design (IHCD).

The Outstanding Junior Alumni award honors alumni of the school who have demonstrated extraordinary success early in their careers. Mullen was recognized for his founding of Therapeutic Systems, an early-stage medical device company that provides evidence-based and insurance-reimbursed medical quality technologies for people with brain disorders.

As board president for the IHCD, Mullen works with board members and the executive director to provide guidance and develop strategy to advance the institute’s mission. IHCD is a nonprofit committed to advancing the role of design in expanding opportunity and enhancing experience for people of all ages, abilities and cultures through excellence in design.

In his work at the Brigham, Mullen leads the Open Innovation Hub and assists innovators at the hospital in advancing their early-stage ideas.
